Obituary of Terence Marsdon Dexter
It is with great sadness that the family of Terry Dexter announce his sudden passing on April 23, 2020 in his 78th year. Born in Upper Clements, Nova Scotia, June 5, 1941, he was the son of the late Marsdon Dexter and late Dorothy (Sly) Dexter.
Terry Leaves behind a family who miss him dearly, including his wife of almost 59 years Marion (nee Schriver); sons Doug Dexter (Patty) of Summerside, PEI and Mardy of Fredericton, NB; daughter Cindy (Pin) Atkinson (Keith Walsh) of Waasis, NB; grandchildren Stephanie Perrone, Chad Atkinson, Tyler Dexter, Torri Dexter, and Natasha Walsh; as well as three adoring sisters Maureen, Pat and Kathy all of Quesnell, BC.
Prior to commencing his time in the Canadian Armed Forces Terry spent many years working in the woods of Nova Scotia with his father, while serving in the Militia. Terry enjoyed a wonderful and distinguished career in the Military between 1959 when he enlisted as a Private at CFB Petawawa, until 1997 when he retired as Major at CFB Gagetown. He continued his many Military friendships in his retirement years in various capacities with the Canadian Guards Association and Branch 93 of the Royal Canadian Legion and will be missed by his many colleagues.
Terry was an avid outdoorsman with a love of working in the woods, snowmobiling and fishing. He also had a wonderful love of many sports including softball/baseball, badminton, broomball and hockey, taking part as a player, administrator and official throughout his years in the Military and long into his retirement, only retiring from umpiring at the age of 76. He served as a wonderful role model, mentor and friend to many people with which he enjoyed his many sporting passions.
In 1961 Terry met the love of his life Marion, whom he married in October of 1961. They enjoyed almost 59 years of marriage, three children, five grandchildren and a number of military postings that resulted in many life long friendships that they cherished and enjoyed into their retirement years. Terry had a wonderful appreciation for life and lived every day to its fullest, as all that knew him would attest, always happy, always smiling, and always caring for others - a very special person who will be greatly missed by family, friends and colleagues.
Due to the current Public Advisory regarding COVID-19, there will only be a private family funeral at this time. There will be a celebration of Terry's life at a later date, to be announced. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation for the wonderful support offered during this most difficult time.
In honour of Terry's memory donations may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 93 or a charity of your choice.
