Obituary of Francis Joseph Crotty
Crotty, Francis "Frank" Joseph
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Francis Joseph Crotty, after a brief illness, at the Oromocto Public Hospital on July 18, 2020. Frank was born May 8, 1929 in St. John’s, NL and although he spent most of his life elsewhere, he was a true Newfoundlander at heart.
Frank was predeceased by the love of his life, Mary Crotty (nee Fagan) and they are now together "forever and always" as he often envisaged. He is survived by his daughters, Mary Dundas (Craig), Sheila Crotty, and Pam Miles. Also survived by his grandchildren, Brendan (Sofia), Joey (Megan), Stephanie (Grant), Travis (Morgan), Jason; great grandchildren Molly and Clifford (Cliffy). Frank leaves behind his sister, Maureen and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents John and Stella Crotty, brothers, Jim and Wayne and sisters, Joan, Patricia, and Doris.
Frank served in the Canadian Armed Forces from July 1951 to May 1979 and was a very proud gunner. After leaving the forces, his love of the military brought him back to work at the ammo depot in Base Gagetown. After finally retiring, Frank could been seen daily walking the streets of Oromocto and happily turning down any offers of a ride. "That’s ok, I can walk there faster!" was his typical answer. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and had a deep sense of faith. Frank will be dearly missed by all his family, friends and the local community.
The family would like to thank Dr. Reid and the nurses on Med1 of OPH for their dedicated and compassionate care of our father.
There will no visitation. A private memorial mass will be celebrated Saturday, July 25, 2020. Due to the current pandemic attendance is by invitation only. Donations may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Knights of Columbus or a charity of your choice.
