Obituary of David Arthur Dykeman
It is with heavy hearts the family of David Dykeman announces his passing on Thursday, September 3, 2020 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital in Fredericton.
Born in Fredericton, NB, he was the son of Davidina (McLaughlan) Dykeman and the late Norman Dykeman. David was a true gentle man. He was born and raised on a farm and continued the family tradition throughout his life. He was a carpenter by trade and worked many years as a Zamboni driver at the Aitken Center. He was an intelligent man with a sense of humour, a passion for history and a love of music. He met and married his best friend and love of his life Susan, only in recent years and will be dearly missed by family and all who knew him.
David is survived by his mother Davidina of Jemseg, NB; his loving wife Susan (Fullarton) Dykeman of Jemseg, NB; his son Virgil Dykeman (Cori) of Saint John, NB; his daughter Samantha Cameron of Jemseg, NB; stepchildren Josh Short (Alison) of Beaver Dam, NB and Charissa Short of Amherst, NS; brothers Ronald Dykeman (Sarah) of Fanjoy’s Point, NB, James Dykeman (Anna) of ON, Larry Dykeman of Burton, NB, Leslie Dykeman of Fredericton, NB and Paul Dykeman (Paula) of Waasis, NB; sisters Sharon Kennedy (Brian) of Cambridge Narrows, NB, and Nancy Bennett of Hampton,NB; 14 grandchildren; one great grandchild; many cousins, nieces and nephews and 18 cattle.
In addition to his father, David was predeceased by brothers Gary and Philip Dykeman; stepson Jacob Short and sister-in-law Julie Dykeman.
Visitation will take place at the Oromocto Funeral Home on Friday September 4, 2020 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2020 at 11:00 AM at the Jemseg Baptist Church. Interment will take in the Jemseg Community Cemetery.
