Obituary of Geraldine Rosemund Amiro

Geraldine ( Dean) Rosemund Amiro ( d’Entremont), age 90, passed away peacefully at the QE II Victoria General Hospital in Halifax, NS, surrounded by family. She fought a couragous battle with cancer for 15 years with strength and grace. She was of strong mind and appetite enjoying her favorite dish, rappie pie, as her last meal. Dean was born December 29, 1929, to the late Isaiah and Marguerite (Amirault) d’Entremont in Pubnico, NS. She was predeceased by her devoted husband of 54 years, Gilbert Amiro, as well as by her siblings, Jennie (Surette), Lawrence, Lionel, Marie (Surrette), Marguerite ( LeBlanc), Wilfred, and Benjamin. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Caroline. Also survived by her immediate family; daughter, Michelle Amiro (Tony Fisher) of Bedford, NS, and Susan Paynter (Dale) of Cambridge, ON; as well as her grandchildren, Alex Paynter (Victoria), Brandon Paynter and Samantha Amiro-Fullerton. She was a devoted Mother, Grandmere and Taunte who loved and valued her family. She kept abreast of all the family news, inquiring about her nieces and nephews and their families accomplishments and adventures. She cherished the calls and visits. Dean always wanted to know what was " going on" in Pubnico and Oromocto, two communities which she considered her home. She spent over 50 years in Oromocto enjoying the support and friendship of her neighbours. She had many friends and regularly was in contact with her closest friends Isabel MacDonald, Camilla MacDougall, and Mary Ward. Dean was active in her community. Serving her community through volunteer activities at St. Vincent de Paul church, Cancer Society and Extended Care at the OPH kept Dean busy. In her spare time she was found enjoying a game of Bridge, going out for coffee or serving tea and her homemade pies at home. Dean was a lifetime member of the CWL. The family is grateful for the care and compassion from Mariola and Kris Ganski of Kingswood Residence where she resided for the last eighteen months. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated from St. Mary's Chapel - Base Gagetown on Saturday, November 14, 2020 at 12 pm with Rev. Ken Weir as Celebrant.
