Obituary of Rita Abbott

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Rita Abbott on Sunday, November 22nd, 2020, at Naasis Village, Shannex, Neill Hall. Rita was born in Whitbourne, Newfoundland, on October 21st, 1926, to Thomas and Bertha Suley. She will be lovingly remembered and cherished by her children, Marilyn Abbott-Charters (Stephen), Robert Abbott (Regina), and Carla Abbott; her 5 grandchildren, Pamela Fulton (Chris), Julia Lavery (Jim), Thomas Charters (Janelle), Nicole Emmerson (Mark), and Calli Abbott; 12 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and sister Gwen Noseworthy. Rita was predeceased by her husband Lloyd, sister Minnie Mercer, and brother Clarence Suley. Rita worked for the Department of Fisheries as a stenographer until her marriage to the love of her life, Lloyd Robert Abbott of St. John’s, Newfoundland. Together they lived a happy, full, and joyous married life of 66 years. A special thank you to the staff of Neill Hall for the kindness, care and compassion shown to our mother. At the request of the family there will be no visitation. Due to COVID-19 restrictions there will be a private funeral service with an interment in Oromocto Pioneer Gardens to follow. For those who wish, memorial donations in memory of Rita may be made to Hospice House.
