Obituary of Mida Marie Morrisey

It is with great sadness that the family of Mida Marie (Durette) Morrisey, loving wife of the late Gerald R. Morrisey, announce her passing on December 9th, 2020 at the York Care Centre with her children by her side. Born on April 28th, 1926, in Atholville, NB, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Ida (Hunt) Durette. Mida worked at Canex on the base for 27 years and enjoyed the friends that she made there and the responsibilities of her position. When she retired, she had the honour of caring for her sister Blanche for 10 years. At this point, Mida was able to spend much more time with her family. Family was everything to Mida and her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were her most precious treasures. Sunday dinner gatherings with everyone together were the highlight of the week and were followed by card games that would fill the room with laughter. Being a loving military spouse, Mida travelled with Gerald to wherever his postings led them. She resided in Kingston, ON, Soest, Germany, St. John’s NL, Halifax and Debert, NS, then finally Oromocto, NB, where they settled. Mida was a very proud and fashionable lady, who loved to dress for any occasion. Her nails were always beautifully manicured and she never missed a Friday appointment at the hair salon. Their family was very sports oriented and Mida was delighted in joining a broomball league with her daughters. She and Gerald loved to dance and there were many dinners at the mess hall and events where you would find them dancing up a storm. They never missed an opportunity to celebrate New Years Eve together, with a new adventure each year. They loved to spend time at "Aunt Elva’s Cottage" at Brule Beach, just outside of Tatamagouche. Although Mida had only been at the York Care Centre for 11 months she very quickly won the hearts of the staff and residents with her quick wit and her firecracker personality. She was never far from her pal and confidant Barb. Together they were a force to be reckoned with. Mida will live on in the hearts of her daughters, Linda MacDonald and Sharon McInnis (Jay) all of Fredericton, NB; her son, Rick Morrisey of Calgary, AB; her three granddaughters, Valerie Poitras (Peter) of Montreal, Jena MacLeod (Todd) and Samantha McInnis (Kodi) all of Fredericton, NB; great grandchildren, Lauren and Nathan LaPointe of Montreal as well as Colton and Ali MacLeod of Fredericton, NB; sisters, Bertha Poley (Bev) of Tide Head, NB, Yvonne Godin of Montreal and Blondine Black (Everette) of Orangeville, ON; sisters-in-law Kathleen Durette of Campbellton, NB, Elva Archibald and Delma Morrisey of Truro, NS; as well as several nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. In addition to her parents, parents-in-law and cherished husband of 68 years, Mida was predeceased by her brothers, Marcel Durette and Danny (Elaine) Durette; her sister Blanche Duquette and her brother-in-law Roland Godin. A special thank you to all the staff of the York Care Centre, in particular the Birch Grove Unit, for their attentive and compassionate care of Mida. As Mom would sing to us "You are my Sunshine", forever Mom, you are our Sunshine. A memorial service will be held from Oromocto Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at 1 pm with Fr. Shawn Daley officiating. For those unable to attend, a livestream of the Service will be viewable at https://vimeo.com/489630297.
