Obituary of Ronald Gregory Pilgrim

Ronald Gregory Pilgrim, aged 80, passed away peacefully at the Fredericton Hospice house on January 6th, 2021. The son of Harris and Kathleen Pilgrim, Ron was born on January 20th 1940 in Seal Rocks, Newfoundland, where he went to St Joseph’s and St Stephen’s schools. Ron was predeceased by his loving wife of 58 years, Mary (Addley), and he will be sadly missed by his four sons and their loving families, Thomas (Judy), Ronald (Catharina), Christopher (Xiao Ling) and William (Sandy). He had nine grandchildren (Tanya, Thomas, Mackenzie, Keegan, Jamie, Callum, Kielan, Harper and Harris), and one great grandchild (Wrennyn). Ron was affectionately known as Ronnie by his much-loved siblings, William, Phil (Margie), Rosetta (Alan), Betty, Trudy (Bill), Kay (Bruce), Allan (Trish), Harris, Kevin, Alex (Val) and Margie. He was loved by his wife’s brothers and sisters (Dolores, Anna, Catherine, Rose Marie, Thomas, Neil, Cyril, Patricia, Agnes, Helen, John, William, Carol, Daniel, Leonard, and Joseph). Ron was a career military man having served 24 years in the Canadian Armed Forces with deployments throughout Canada and service to his country in Germany, Cyprus, and Jamaica. He retired as a Master Warrant Officer attached to the Royal Canadian Electrical Mechanical Engineers (RCEME). Ron was an avid sportsman who loved salmon fishing and hunting, and was known to tell a few yarns in his day. He was parishioner of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Oromocto, New Brunswick, and he sometimes shared a few Latin words remembered from his childhood education with his grandchildren. The family expresses thanks Dr. Reiman of the Oncology Unit in Saint John, Dr. Stevenson of Cardiology in Saint John, his family doctor, Dr. White, and Dr. Paulin and the staff of Hospice Fredericton. They also dearly thank Angie Dreaddy, Kim Riggs, and Rita Parsons for their friendship and unwavering support. Ron is now with his loving parents, and his wife Mary. A mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Oromocto, New Brunswick, on Wednesday, January 13th, 2021 at 2:00pm with Fr. Charles Udeh as celebrant, with interment to follow. For those who wish to attend the service, we kindly ask that you RSVP either via email at oromocto@mcadamsfh.com or phone at (506)357-5100.
