Obituary of David Sinclair MacKay

It is with sadness that the family announces the passing of David Sinclair "Sam" MacKay on Tuesday, March 30, 2021, at his home in Burton, NB. Born on October 25, 1934, Sam was the son of the late Hector and Eileen (Sinclair) MacKay of Pictou Landing, NS. Sam joined the Canadian Armed Forces in 1953 and was posted to several bases while a member of the Royal Canadian Air Force including Saint Hubert, Baden, Germany Moose Jaw, and Borden. After taking his commission as a Maintenance Officer, Sam was posted to Gagetown where he spent the remainder of his 42 year military career. Highlights of Sam’s career include a deployment to the Golan Heights; however, he never lost his passion for aircraft and it was clear that he loved his time as an RCAF Air Frame Technician. Sam was a master craftsman. In addition to advanced welding, he enjoyed woodworking, carpentry and auto racing. Many of his happiest hours were those he spent as maintenance and restoration crew with the Nott Racing Team through their conquest of many Maritime tracks. The family especially thanks Glyn and Brenda Nott for their unflagging support over the past months. Sam is predeceased by his beloved wife, Eileen as well as his parents, sister Norma and brother Alan. Sam is survived by his daughters Kate (Brian) and Kelly (Andre); grandchildren James (Julia), Scott (Alicia), Oneida and Noah along with 5 great grandsons (Sam, Jack, Max, Oliver and Theo) as well as nieces, nephews and cousins. The funeral will take place at Oromocto United Church on Saturday, April 3, 2021, at 11:00 am with the Rev. Bob Jones officiating. The Oromocto Legion Branch # 93 will hold a tribute service at the church beginning at 10:45 am. Due to current Public Health restrictions, those wishing to attend the funeral service are asked to contact the Oromocto Funeral Home to reserve a space. Please call (506) 357-5100 or email oromocto@mcadamsfh.com with your name, phone number and number of people in your group. The service will also be livestreamed at the following link: https://vimeo.com/532667012 In lieu of flowers, donations to a charity of the donor’s choosing would be appreciated by the family. Sam would also want you to be kind to each other, appreciate your blessings and act with a generosity of spirit to those less fortunate.
