Obituary of Howard Wood McLaughlin

It is with great sadness that the family of Howard Wood McLaughlin announces his passing on September 25, 2021, at the Oromocto Public Hospital at the age of 90. Born on July 9, 1931, he was the son of the late Ernest and Grace (Wood) McLaughlin and the loving husband of Marina (Boyle) McLaughlin. Howard was a talented carpenter, painter and craftsman. Over his working years he was employed by Wandlyn Inns, Kennedy Developments, Maritime Engineering and George McQuarrie. When Howard was painting, he hardly ever spilled a drop! Many of Howard’s family and friends have some of his fine work displayed in their homes. He was also a man of great faith, serving as a church deacon, Sunday School teacher and leading Bible studies at weekly prayer meetings. Howard was an avid reader and still enjoyed spending time with a book up until his passing. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 60 years, Marina; children Annette McCullough (Rick), Shawn McLaughlin (Julie), Andrea Gorham (Tony) and Matthew McLaughlin; grandchildren Allyson Gorham, Rachel McCullough, Robyn Murray (Curtis) and Daniel McCullough (Jennifer LeBlanc); a great grandson Cole Murray; brother David McLaughlin; sisters-in-law Violet McLaughlin, Barbara McLaughlin, Miriam Glenn, Lois McIsaac and Norma Banks, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, Howard was predeceased by his brothers Maurice, Bob, Don, Billy and Jack; half brother Leland; sisters Margaret, Edna, Bessie, and infant sister Marion. "Thank you kindly" to everyone who provided care for Howard during his illness. Due to current public health restrictions, a private graveside service will be held at Rusagonis Baptist Cemetery on Wednesday, September 29, 2021. Pastor Larry Matthews will officiate assisted by Pastor David Gray. In honour of Howard’s love for God’s Word, memorial donations may be made to The Gideons or a charity of the donor’s choice.
