Obituary of Merlin Frederick Bertram Fox, MMM

The passing of Merlin Frederick Bertram Fox, husband of Shirley (Jewett) Fox, of Geary, NB, occurred on Sunday, February 20, 2022 at the Veteran’s Health Unit in Fredericton. Born on June 2, 1932 in Lower Queensbury, NB, he was the son of the late Elward (Bud) Fox, and Mary (Barr) Fox. He served in the Medical Corps of the Canadian Armed Forces for 28 ½ years and then sold Real Estate for 9 years. He loved playing the guitar, fiddle, and singing with his wife Shirley. After retirement he and Shirley volunteered, singing country and gospel music in nursing homes, churches, and other venues. They also sang with his brother Bob and his wife Elissa, being called the singing Fox’s. He especially loved his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and would say they are all smart, good-looking, and musical and that they all took after him. "Opa" was greatly loved by them all and will be missed very much. Besides his wife Shirley of 68 years, Merlin is survived by his children, Randy (Elizabeth) and Shane Fox of Fredericton; five grandchildren, Meghan Fox, Keltie Magnus (Steven), Hillary Fox, Connor Fox, and Chloe Fox; two step-grandchildren, Colton Gough and Jaxson Pollock; two great-grandchildren, Everly and Alina Magnus, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by three brothers, Robert, Meredith, Eldon, and two sisters, Carol, and Marie. The family would like to thank the staff of the VHU for the care they gave him, and to Leah and Allan Prosser for their help and support over the past few years. At the family’s request there will be no visitation. A funeral service will be held at Geary Baptist Church on Friday, February 25, 2022, at 2 pm, with Rev. Robert Weaver officiating. Due to current restrictions, proof of vaccination, government issued identification, and wearing a mask will be required for entry to the funeral service. For those unable to attend, a live stream of the funeral can be watched at the Geary Baptist YouTube page, https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCxOUKRz8WFFzocXX8n6XrRg. Interment will be held in the spring at the Mactaquac Cemetery. For those who wish, donations in Merlin’s memory may be made to Geary Baptist Church or Parkinson’s Society.
