Obituary of Reginald Mercer

It is with broken hearts and deep sorrow that we announce the death of Reginald Wilfred Mercer. Reg passed away after a brief illness surrounded by his family at the Doctor Everett Chalmers Hospital on June 9, 2022. He is survived by his soul mate, the love of his life, Patrica Mercer (Joy) whom he lovingly called Patsy and their daughters; Sherry (Shawn) Croucher and Judy (Stewart) Pope, his grandchildren Dayne Croucher, Taylor Pope and Courtney Croucher (Joshua Fillmore), all of whom he loved deeply and unconditionally. He was so proud of his family. Reg was born in Shearstown, Newfoundland, on February 25, 1944, to Susan Mercer (Neil) and John Arthur Mercer. He had 9 siblings, Eugene (Alice deceased), Arthur deceased (Olive deceased) and (Jean), Susan (Moses deceased), Sylvia (Leander), Jack (deceased), Sam (Angeline), Burt (Susan), Iris (Frank), John (Kay). Many nieces and nephews that he treated like they were his own children. Reg's home was and will always be his beloved Labrador. He worked at the Iron Ore Company of Canada for almost 40 years. He had many wonderful friends who shared his passion for hunting, fishing, boating and, because it’s Labrador, ski dooing. It was a dream for anyone who loved the outdoors as much as he did. He always loved being surrounded by his family and friends, impromptu get togethers and country music, especially, Johnny Cash. He was always one to tell a story and an equally great listener. If you needed a shirt he would gladly take his off and give it to you. He was kind and generous. When he loved you it surrounded you always, like a big hug. There will be a celebration of life held at a later date. Donations can be made to the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation or your local SPCA
