Obituary of Irvine Leslie Bridges

It is with great sadness that the family of Irvine Bridges announces his passing at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on Thursday, November 2, 2023.

Irvine was born on March 18, 1946 in Fredericton, NB.  Irvine lived his entire life on the family farm in Sheffield, where he worked for many years alongside his brother and best friend, Stuart, as business partners of Bridges Farms Ltd.  Later, he formed his own trucking company, Irvine L. Bridges Ltd., and continued working many enjoyable hours until his retirement in 2020.  When Irvine wasn't working (which was rare) he enjoyed fishing trips with his friends and family and, later in life, annual Father’s Day camping trips with his grandsons.  He and Bonnie also enjoyed many road trips South with the Feeneys, and spending time with friends at the lake.  He had a life-long love of hockey and as a teenager would hitchhike from home to the York Arena just to play in a pick-up game on a Sunday afternoon.   He was fortunate to have attended several NHL games over the years.

Irvine is survived by his wife of 56 years Veronica “Bonnie” (London) Bridges; daughters, Suzanne Pomeroy (John) of Sheffield and Marilee Nixon (Troy) of Burlington, ON, and grandsons Jackson Pomeroy (Kaitlyn Barrett) of Rusagonis, Wyatt Pomeroy of Sheffield, and Daniel and Ben Nixon of Burlington.  Irvine was extremely proud of his four grandsons and all of their accomplishments.  He is also survived by his sister Charlotte Upton (Stewart), brother-in-law Neil Ward and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was pre-deceased by his parents, Jim and Bea Bridges; brother Stuart Bridges; sister Marjorie Ward, and sister-in-law Donna (McMonagle) Bridges.

The family would like to thank the staff at the DECH, the nurses of 4NE and 4SE, with special thanks to nurse Justine, Dr. Myles and Dr. McMullen.

Friends and family will gather at the Oromocto Funeral Home on Monday November 20, 2023, from 4:00 to 7:00pm.  Interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or charity of choice.
