Obituary of Fay Lillian (Switzer) Tidd

Fay Lillian Tidd (Switzer)

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Fay Lillian Tidd on November 9th 2023 at the age of 94. Fay was born on a farm in the Ottawa Valley in 1929. She was the daughter of the late Harriet Hitsman and Charlie Switzer. Fay graduated from Lisgar Collegiate and then entered a Nursing Program at the Ottawa Civic Hospital. She later married Wally (deceased), a military member and they lived in many areas of Canada before arriving in Oromocto in 1970.

Fay became a realtor in 1972. She studied at UNB and with the Appraisal Institute of Canada to attain the "Fellow of the Real Estate Institute" designation in 1977. She was president of the Fredericton Real Estate Board for two terms in the 1980's and President of the New Brunswick Real Estate Association in 1987. Fay was a very well known Real Estate professional and office manager for over 30 years. Perhaps Fay was best known for her dedication to her beloved Town of Oromocto serving as the Mayor for several terms spanning 4 decades. Fay was awarded the "Louise Breau Award" in 1996 for her dedication to Community and Province. In 2005 she was appointed Honorary Colonel of the 403 Helicopter Operational Training Squadron and served for many years. Her volunteer work includes Chair of the United Way Campaign, President of the Oromocto Chamber of Commerce, Chair of the Ultrasound fund raising campaign, the Provincial Planning and Appeal Board, Founding Member of the Oromocto Public Hospital Foundation, and Oromocto Crime Stoppers as well as Church Warden and many other fund raising campaigns. In 2005 Fay was presented the Paul Harris Award by the Rotary Foundation and in February 2023 Fay was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal.

Fay's proudest accomplishment was to have a family. She was the mother of four sons and one daughter. Fay is survived by sons George (Jaye) of Burlington, ON, James (Sharon) of Kitchener, ON, and Michael (Darlene) of Oromocto, NB and her daughter Sharon Guitard of Oromocto, NB. She was the cherished Nana to eleven grandchildren, Charles Tidd, Saxon Tidd, Jack Tidd, Paul McDougall, Todd McDougall, Deanna McHugh, David Tidd, Barry Tidd, Tiffany Good, Amanda Tidd and Samantha Tidd, also seventeen great grandchildren and two great, great grandchildren. She was the loving sister to Emily Muggleton-Sheldrick (Sterling) of Russel, ON, and Fred Muggleton (Jean) of Navan, ON. Fay also leaves behind her most devoted and caring friend, Paul Gallinger of Fredericton, NB.

Fay was predeceased by her Husband Wallace "Wally" Tidd and her son John Wallace Tidd.

The family would like to thank all of the caregivers at Pine Grove nursing home for their wonderful care and attention to Fay over these last few years.

A memorial service will be held at the Oromocto Funeral Home Chapel on November 17th, 2023 at 11:00 am. Fr. Stephen Harnish will officiate. Following the service, there will be a celebration of Fay's life held at the Sir Douglas Hazen Centre at 994 Onondaga Street Oromocto, NB from 1:00pm - 3:00pm where all are invited.
