Obituary of Nelly Schuttenbeld
Surrounded by her five children, Nelly (Scheenen) Schuttenbeld passed away peacefully on Sunday February 25th at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born in Limburg Holland on November 24, 1933, Nelly was the wife of late Harri Schuttenbeld.
Nelly’s beloved husband of 62 years passed away in 2018. Nelly is survived by her loving children Annette (Tim) Burgess, Louise (Andrew) Connely, Maryann (Colin) Garagan, John (Wanda), and Nancy Schuttenbeld. She will be deeply missed by her 13 grandchildren (Lisa, Lori, Krysten, Jonathan, Justin, Jason, Erin, Christine, Mikel, Harrison, Alex, Carter and Rachel) and her 13 great grandchildren. She is survived by her six siblings in Holland.
Nelly immigrated to Canada at the age of 21 to join the love of her life who had immigrated the year before. She and Harri started with humble beginnings and built a family and dairy farm where they worked together for over 50 years. Side by side they built their dairy farm, their family and a large circle of friends. They loved Canada and all that it had to offer. They retired in their 70’s and enjoyed life along the Saint John River with their grown family and friends.
Nelly loved her children and always put family first. She was there for everyone. She never spoke of her values but lived them everyday. She was humble and very intelligent. It was often said she could teach a course in common sense and money management. She was loving, loyal, had strong work ethics, and a heart of gold. Good luck keeping up with her! On the farm, the door was always open for a cup of coffee and a home cooked meal. In addition to being a great cook, she loved cross country skiing and cycling. She cycled until she was in her 70’s. Skiing all winter on the trials Harri made for her in the woods, she would say “this is my Florida”.
After Harri’s passing she moved into assisted living at Paradise Villa later that year at the age of 85. There she made many new friendships. Her children visited every day for the next five years until she passed. Her family are very grateful to the amazing staff for the wonderful, loving assisted care she received.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Oromocto Funeral Home. Visitation will be on Thursday March 7th from 4-7pm at Oromocto Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday March 8th at 11am at the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 25 Lewisville Street, Oromocto NB.
For those who wish, a memorial donation to the Oromocto Food Bank or Fredericton Hospice or charity of donors choice would be greatly appreciated. As much as we will miss her, we are comforted knowing she will be joining dad in heaven. Love you mom/Oma. Best mom ever!
