Obituary of John "Jack" William Dunn

With heavy hearts, the family of John “Jack” Dunn announces his passing on May 9, 2024, at the Doctor Everett Chalmers Hospital, Fredericton.  Jack was born on May 13, 1933, in St. John’s, Newfoundland to the late Patrick and Anne (Hogan) Dunn.

Jack is survived by his children Cheryl Gallant (Doug), Darren Dunn, John Dunn (Shelley) and Jackie Dunn (Natalie McLean); his grandchildren Tara Werner (Kyle), Christopher Gallant, Justin Gallant (Kelsey Hovey), Kelly Gapp (Erik), Jessica Canning (Brandon), Meagan Morin (Scott Samuelson) and Mackenzie Dunn (Benny Gilbert); his great-grandchildren Liv, Laina, Slater, Maverick, Jacob, Avery, Abby and Thoren; his sisters-in-law Marg Connolly, Mary Dunn and Linda Bulger; and several nieces and nephews.

Jack is also survived by his special friend Catherine Clements who Dad loved to visit, spend time with and made sure to call every night before bed.  Dad always bragged that he won at crib, but we all know the truth.

Jack also declared that no one took care of him like Doug who went above and beyond in his duties as son-in-law and for which we will always be grateful.

Jack was predeceased by his beautiful wife Mary and his caring daughter Carol.  Jack was the last of his large family and was predeceased by his brothers Don, Pat, Robert and Michael, and his sisters Mary, Marg, Alice, Shirley and Bernice.

Special thanks to all the staff in 4NW at the DECH, especially Kelsey and Paolo, who were extremely attentive and comforting to Dad and us all.  The staff’s care was not unnoticed by our family and we thank you all for your kindness.

Visitation will be held at the Oromocto Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, from 1:00-3:00pm and 7:00-9:00pm,  A tribute by the Black Watch and the Royal Canadian Legion will be held at 7:00pm on Tuesday, May 14, 2024.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Vincent de Paul Church, Oromocto, on Wednesday, May 15, 2024 at 2:00pm.  Interment will follow.  A Celebration of Life will follow at 3:30pm at the Oromocto Legion.

Donations can be made in Dad’s memory to the Oromocto Legion Branch #93.
