Obituary of Wendell Donald Banks

It is with great sadness that the family of Wendell Donald Banks of Lincoln, NB, announces his passing on September 8, 2024. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 52 years, Linda (Harlow), daughters Stacie (Ben) and Jennifer (Karel) and grandchildren Nina, Nora and Miles. He also leaves behind sisters Marie, Marilyn and Gail (Ernie) as well as nieces and nephews. Wendell was predeceased by parents Clement and Elsie (Hoben) Banks, sister Barbara, and brother Maynard.

Wendell was born in Saint John, NB, on April 19, 1949 and was educated in the Oromocto area. He was a mechanic by trade and worked for the Dept. of Natural Resources for 35 years where he made many good friends.

When you went shopping with Wendell, you had to plan an extra 20 minutes because he’d inevitably run into someone who wanted to catch up. Wendell was the kind of man who woke up before dawn on snowy days to compete with his neighbour to see who could plow each other’s driveway first. He loved nature, bird-watching, basketball (go Raptors!), grooming his dogs and Sunday drives. But what brought him the most joy was playing games with loved ones, especially crib and 45s, and the laughter that surrounded the table.

We would like to express appreciation to the Palliative Care staff at the DECH for their kindness and compassion. Also, thank you to Debbie, Ernie, and Gail for the time they gave to fill Wendell’s final days with love.

In keeping with Wendell’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. For those who wish, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the The Chalmers Foundation.
